Graves County deputy receives crisis intervention award

GRAVES COUNTY, KY -

The Graves County Sheriff's Office says a deputy sheriff was recently recognized Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year for the Four Rivers Region.  

The sheriff's office says Deputy Sheriff Dale Mason was named CIT Officer of the Year at the annual CIT conference in September in Georgetown, Kentucky. The sheriff's office says CIT programs help members of law enforcement have more effective interactions with people who have mental illness, and 12 deputies in Graves County have had CIT training. 

Mason was nominated for the award, the sheriff's office says, after he deescalated a situation in which a person who was threatening to shoot themself, and Mason and other deputies were able to disarm the person and resolve the situation without anyone getting hurt.
