Proposed KY bill would allow home school students to participate in public school sports

FRANKFORT, Ky -

A Kentucky State Representative has filed a bill that will allow home school students to participate in public school sports.

This is the third year that Representative Stan Lee, a Republican representing Lexington, has filed this legislation.

Under the proposal, home school students would register with the local middle or high school in their district and be subject to the same requirements as public school students to participate. That would include taking a physical and meeting academic requirements to be eligible.

Thirty-one other states allow home school students to participate in public school sports. This includes Illinois, Missouri, and Tennessee.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has not supported previous versions of this bill. You can read more about their concerns by clicking here.
