Property tax increase in Marion, IL

Posted: Updated:
MARION, IL -

If you live in Marion, Illinois your property taxes are going up.

The city council unanimously approved an increase of more than 16%.

That's 8 cents more for every $100 evaluation.

On a $100,000 house that means an annual increase of about $26.

The increase only impacts the city tax, not the entire property tax bill.

The city's treasurer says the increase will help fund police and firefighter's pension as well as $140,000 in new funding for recreation.
