Local Elite Spotter Training
The Paducah National Weather Service introduces Elite Spotter Training to the community.
For many years, the National Weather Service (NWS) has provided storm spotter training free to the general public. The Paducah NWS is no exception and has seen a growing interest among the public to continue their storm spotting education.
During the late Winter and early Spring, the Paducah NWS offers both Beginner and Advanced spotter courses. This gives not only the NWS but also the local media additional "eyes in the sky" to confirm when severe weather is in fact occurring. Spotters can message or relay storm reports to the NWS and they distribute that information to emergency managers and other media outlets.
This Spring, the Paducah NWS has offered something new. It's called Elite Spotter Training. Local spotters who have completed the beginner and advanced classes can register to attend Elite training. Upon passing a short quiz after the training, spotters are recognized with a certificate.
Only a few NWS offices in the country have ventured into offering this new kind of training. An exciting opportunity for those in our community to have available to them.
Only a few more Elite Spotter Training courses are left for this Spring season. To find out more about the classes and when they are offered, click here.
