Elevated Fire Danger Continues
Our drought just keeps getting worse. We're now more than 10" below average in rainfall this year. Much of the area remains in a moderate drought. The Bootheel, parts of NW TN and extreme SW KY are even in severe drought.
Thursday, we will combine the dry conditions with a few wind gusts and low humidity to create an elevated fire danger. NW winds will likely be around 10 mph, but gusts near 15 mph are possible. Expect humidity levels to be all the way down around 15-20%. This means it will be very easy for fires to start and spread quickly. Many counties already have burn bans in place. Even if your county does not, burning is not suggested Thursday afternoon. A Red Flag Watch or Warning could be issued later.
