Allied services can't help with high energy bills
MAYFIELD, Ky. — You likely just got or are about to get an unpleasant but not unexpected surprise: your electric bill.
Thanks to these triple-digit temperatures, a lot of you are dealing with bills you simply can't afford to pay.
Historically, families have turned to "West Kentucky Allied Services" to supplement their payments. In 2010, the organization gave away $134,000.00 to 1,032 households.
This year is different. They don't have any money to give. State budget woes forced program cuts across the commonwealth, including to the cooling assistance program.
"The cabinet for health and family services did not have additional funds to be able to provide one," said Tony Dowdy with West Kentucky Allied Services. "It's sad. We hate sending people away. It just breaks my heart."
If you're in need of assistance, call your local West Kentucky Allied Services department. They can put you in touch with other agencies in your area.
