Srgt. M.P. Melissa A. Jones was born 9lb, 4oz to Melanie, and Lynn Shepherd. A proud member of the Paducah Police Exployers. It is all she ever talked about. Both her Grandpas were in the Army, and she was always interested in their stories. She started bringing home recruters in Jr High. Like clockwork once a month I had every branch in my home more than once. Her senior year in Highschool, was all about the Army, she begged me to sign the papers for her to leave the fall rotation, she was 17, she turned 18 in basic training. She has never looked back. The Army is her first love, and she has given up everything to serve her country. She is now serving in Iraq, leaving behind her 2 babies, Hannah who just turned 6 without her Momma, and Slade 4. I have not shpent a Christmas with my Daughter since 1999. From Basic she spent 2 years in Bosina, she flew home on 9-11, and flew over the towers 30 min. before the crashes. I was so scared she was on one of those planes. She couldnt call when she landed, because everything was on lockdown. She called at 12:30 that day to let me know she was of, from their she went to Cuba, Gitmo, and was their for 2 years. She is a true heroe never thinking about herself, always a soldier. This deployment is different, this is the first time she has left her babies. They dont understand, and the pain I feel for them is unbearable. She misses them so much, and has had a hard time dealing with the Holidays. I am the proudest Mom in the world, My Daughter is my Heroe, all I want is her home for Christmas, not for me, but for her babies, who are to young to understand. SRGT M.P. MELISSA A JONES, DAUGHTER, WIFE, MOTHER, AND TRUE AMERICAN HEROE, MY HEROE. NEVER THINKING ABOUT HERSELF, BUT HER COUNTRY FIRST.
