My son, Major Clay Nichols joined the Air Force in January 2000. Since then he has seen the world: New Mexico, Korea, Germany, Afghanistan, Texas, Japan and now Iraq. He was named Officer of the Year for Europe in 2005 and again Officer of the Year for the Pacific in 2009. How proud can a Mother and Father be!!! In June he married another Officer in the Air Force, Kristen, stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A few days before the wedding he found out that he was being deployed to Baghdad. So Clay and Kristen had to cancel half of their honeymoon so he could fly back to Japan to finish up things there and then fly to Louisanna for 2 months of training before going to Iraq. Since being married June 12, they have only had 2 weeks together. As much as I miss my son, I know his new bride misses him even more. If I could have him home for the Holidays I would want him to be in Colorado starting his new life with her instead of Paducah. Knowing he is happy is enough for me. Thank goodness for Skype.
