I met my husband in October 2000. Come to find out we knew each other years prior and we really did not like each other as children. Shortly after meeting again we started dating. From that point on we never spent one night away from each other. Valentines means a lot to me because on February 22, 2001 my husband John asked me to marry him in front of all of our friends at a local karaoke bar that we frequented. Instead of being cliche and asking me to marry him on Valentines day he planed out this elaborate proposal. That day I was not feeling well and I worked for my grandparents. I decided that I was going to go home early and get in the bed. So I left to go home, and thought that John was at work. Come to find out when I had called him to tell him that I was going home he knew it was the perfect time to talk to my grandparents. He went to my work and spoke with them, all without my knowing. I later got a phone call that afternoon from my grandmother asking me if John and I were going to go to karaoke that night. I told her that I was not sure as I was still feeling terrible, but she convinced me otherwise. She encouraged me to go so I said that I would. John got home and helped me to pick out some clothes to wear, and we headed to the bar. On the way there he suggested that we try to sing a song called "What if I Said". I had told him how much I liked that song and that we should start singing it together. We arrive and I notice that almost all of our friends happen to be there that night. Everyone was paying more attention to the two of us then normal, but I still did not think much of it cause it had been awhile since seeing a lot of them. The time came for us to go up on stage and sing. I stood just slightly in front of John and we belted out "What if I said." Everyone there had a dance partner the entire bar was on the dance floor and watching me and John like we are professional singers. I am thinking to myself man we really are nailing this song. The song comes to an end and I step forward to put the microphone on the stand when I hear John say over the microphone "Wait Just a minute Melissa" I turn and look at him and he is down on one knee and smiling from ear to ear. He pulls out the ring and says "I want to ask you this in front of all of our friends Will you marry me?" I was shocked to say the least. I had no idea that he had planned this. Of course I said yes and we have been married almost 9 years now and on February 22, 2011 it will be 10 years since he asked me to marry him. Together we have a beautiful 8 year old girl and our 7 year old boy who has had to overcome a lot since being born premature. I am truly blessed, and there could not be any better Valentine then my husband John and my children.
