This story starts off with a Fire Fighter's wedding. Just as we were suppose to be gathered at the station, you guessed it, my soon-to-be husband got called out on a fire call. There were several men on this dept. that was suppose to be in our wedding so they responded. It didn't take long, but they all came back safe and sound. The wedding proceeded as planned from there. We did not have the money to have a honeymoon and our wedding was very simple. From that day forward, I really began to realize how much sacrifice, dedication, and love this man has for his family and community. He gets up in below freezing temperatures, exhausting hot temperatures, all hours of the night, most dangerous conditions to be there for his community. As this started to wear on me a bit, he stopped me one day and said, "I hope this never happens, but one day this could be our parents or our child needing me, so I go in hopes to make a difference in someones life." From that day forward I sacrifice the time together so he can go and help others. Around this time of year we spend less time together because of the weather. Another crazy time is summer when everyone burns brush piles. I always pray my firefighter comes home safely, but know EVERY time he walks out that door, that might not always be the case. He IS an amazing man in so many more cases with his family as well. A man who lost his father, became a father to children who lost their father, and always concerned with all the needs of his family. Together we make a great team...where I am weak he is strong and vice versa. I love my Gilberstville's Assistant Chief firefighter forever and ever AMEN!
