My mom has done a lot in her life, but what she does the most is care for others. My parents divorced when I was 4, and my two brothers were 6 and 10. My mom raised the three of us and worked a full time job, and still managed to attend sports games, and band and chorus concerts. She never left us wanting for anything, especially her time and love. Now that we are all grown she still supports us in everything we do, and is an amazing grandma to my two young nephews. The last few months have been a hard time, and now it is time for us to return that love and support. My step-dad had surgery a few months ago to remove a benign tumor from his spine, unfortunately that surgery has taken his sight. Adjusting to this new life has been trying for him, and while I'm sure it is also for her, you would never know it. She keeps a smile on her face and keeps her head held high. She is his guide and partner in his now unfamiliar world, and I feel she deserves some recognition, something she'd never ask for. She doesn't do it because she has to, or because she feels obligated. She does it for the same reason she does everything else she does, because she loves. The picture I chose is from a family reunion in Lake Tahoe we all attended a few years ago (before the surgery). This was one of my favorite family trips. My mom paid for all nine of us to go, including my boyfriend. Just another example of her selflessness, one of the many qualities she possesses that makes her my hero.
My mom, my friend, my hero
