Graves County Schools' staff considers Power of Possibilities
THE POWER OF POSSIBILITIES – The Graves County School District’s Opening Day for Faculty and Staff Aug. 3 featured as its theme “The Power of Possibilities.” Administrators told the crowd of approximately 700 employees that they were inspired recently by the message of Mike Rayburn, who can be seen and hear on-line at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_ggcfFahBQ. The comedian-guitarist was a keynote speaker at the Kentucky Association of School Administrators’ Summer Institute. Rayburn encourages people to face the impossible by asking, “What if…” Among administrators’ examples of achieving the impossible were pro basketball great Odie Smith of Farmington, the 1952 Cuba Cubs Basketball Team, former NASA Chief Engineer Rex Geveden of Lowes, and retired state Senator Greg Higdon of Fancy Farm. Symsonia Elementary’s example was Carson McKee, a sixth grader, who last year played fiddle with Charlie Daniels at the national managers’ meeting of Sam’s Clubs. She played for the Graves County Schools’ crowd, along with her brother Connor McKee, also on fiddle, and the Kentucky Opry’s Clay Campbell on guitar. The McKees regularly perform at the Kentucky Opry in Draffenville.
