The Graves County High School baseball program featured legendary college baseball coach Ron Polk as its guest speaker at an early January dinner. Eagle head coach Khristain Elliott (left) posed with Polk in the school commons. Polk has been called “The Adolph Rupp of College Baseball.” The former coach of the Southeastern Conference’s Mississippi State and Georgia and other successful programs offers a unique and experienced perspective on the game. Polk told entertaining stories about his battles with SEC umpires. His larger message was to encourage student-athletes to work hard during their high school years to enable future success. He told them to use their unique potential to stand out. His main focus was on faith and helping others. Elliott said he was pleased to feature a man of Polk’s stature and hopes that his message resonates with those who attended.
