Summer Feeding Program

Help hungry Graves kids this summer

Graves County Schools’ food services director Leah Holland-Mills (standing) addresses volunteers in a recent meeting. She says that for some children in Mayfield and Graves County, the meals they eat at school are the best – and sometimes the only – meals they’ll get all day. To fill the gap when school’s not in session, the Graves County Schools’ Food Services Department in recent years has collaborated with community individuals and organizations to offer the annual Summer Feeding Program in Mayfield and Graves County. Churches, civic clubs, businesses, and others are welcome to help as locations and volunteers. Two schools will host meals this year. Graves County Central Elementary School will serve as a site for breakfast weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and for lunch from 11 a.m. to noon from May 16 through Aug. 3, except for Memorial Day, May 28, and the Fourth of July. A new site this year is Symsonia Elementary School. It will serve as a site for breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays from May 16 through June 15, except for Memorial Day, May 28. Anyone interested may attend the program’s informational meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the district’s central office, 2290 State Route 121 North, Mayfield.
