Regional family magazine celebrates

Purchase Parenting and Family Magazine celebrates its 10th year in March and rebrands as Purchase Area Family Magazine.

Publisher Karen Hammond began the magazine in 2004 as a much needed community resource for area events, classes and family friendly activities. The first issue was published as Paducah Parenting and Grand Parenting Magazine in March of 2004 with a distribution of 5,000 copies and a slender 48 pages. In the past few years "Paducah" in the title was changed to "Purchase" to better reflect the publications ever increasing coverage area of 8 western Kentucky counties and southern Illinois. Today, at the beginning of their 10th year, the magazine has grown and 20,000 full color complimentary copies are distributed to the region each month!

"I knew from the start that our area needed information on classes, events and activities for families - all in one place,” said Hammond. “Our readers keep referring back our calendar regularly throughout month. We’re proud of our original content and the vehicle for publicity we are able to offer to local business and organizations. The combination of informative articles and our large distribution - including all area schools, medical facilities and healthcare providers' offices, public buildings, daycares, churches and of course retail outlets - has been a key reason for our success."

The 10th anniversary brings a new website with unique, online content and a searchable calendar of regional events. In addition, the magazine has been given a new look and new name, Purchase Area Family Magazine. “We think this will better reflect the content and focus of this regional publication,” said Hammond.
