Wingo kids dance via VSA of Ky award

Wingo Elementary School recently received an award from VSA Arts of Kentucky that made it possible for dance artist Karen Balzer to work for the past month with the second and fifth grade classes on creating choreography to pieces from the circus musical “Barnum.” The Wingo second graders will perform as clowns. They’re shown rehearsing here. The fifth graders will portray tightrope walkers. Balzer is working with both traditional students and students with special needs for a regional schools’ dance assembly program at Lovett Auditorium on the campus of Murray State University at 9 a.m. Friday, April 19. It’s part of the Jackson Purchase Dance Company’s production of Spring Dancefest. Other Graves County elementary schools involved in the regional dance assembly program are Cuba, Farmington, Lowes, Sedalia, and Symsonia. The regional school assembly dance performance is funded, in part, by Ronald McDonald House Charities, a non-profit funding organization. That allows the elementary students to attend free-of-charge. Parents and others who wish to attend each will pay a $5 admission fee.
