Graves Truck Pull draws large crowd 9/14

The Graves County Truck Pullers Association’s sixth annual truck and tractor pull drew thousands of spectators to the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds Saturday night, Sept. 14, after rain forced postponement from the original date in mid-August. The September evening was cooler, less humid, and far dryer than the August date.
In its first five years, including concessions, the annual truck and tractor pull has raised more than $125,000 for school children. The Graves County Truck Pullers Association donates proceeds to the Christmas assistance programs of Mayfield and Graves County public schools.
Each of the family resource and youth service centers that serve the ten Graves County schools and three Mayfield Independent schools receive funds to help disadvantaged students and their families celebrate the holiday.
Concession stand proceeds this year benefit projects of the family resource and youth services centers as well as Farmington and Symsonia elementary schools.
The sixth annual event, like previous ones, was a Ken-Ten sanctioned event. The truck pullers’ leaders are Larry Wooley, Ricky Wilson, Kenneth Wiggins, and Kenny Wiggins. Kenny Wiggins’ 70th birthday was honored with the singing of “Happy Birthday to You” from the crowd, just before Wiggins’ granddaughters sang the National Anthem.
The Truck Pullers have made a tradition of keeping the amount of money raised secret until they present checks at the meetings of the two school boards later in the fall.
Pictured here are a competitor in the truck pull early in the evening and part of the crowd later that night.
