Operating backhoe makes learning fun

Graves County High School sophomore Dustin Enoch operates a backhoe with the guidance of Dan McKeel of McKeel Equipment Company in Murray and Paducah. Enoch is a carpentry student at the Mayfield-Graves County Area Technology Center and said of the experience, “It’s pretty interesting.” Chris Nelson, executive director of the Associated General Contractors of Western Kentucky Construction Association, said, “… One of the great needs in construction is that a huge shortage of skilled craft workers is taking place. We’re going to need about 2 million more skilled craft workers by 2017.”
