A whole lot of shakin' going on

Graves County High School junior Brandon Ivie grins after using a jackhammer at the Third Annual Construction Career Day at Murray State University’s Expo Center. Ivie is a carpentry student at the Mayfield-Graves County Area Technology Center and said he enjoyed the experience because it’s different. MSU engineering technology professor Danny Claiborne said, “… These students today need to have a highly-skilled ability to do work that sets them apart as individuals with specific skills. This day is trying to show students that it’s difficult to go straight out of high school into the workforce. They need that postsecondary education in some form to be in a position to be hired. Most of these students are those who want to work with their hands. They need to be skilled labor.”
