My sister, my pop, and me

The dad he didnt have to be!

Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone really special to be a dad! Darrell Ramage came into my life way before becoming my step father. Me and his daughter ( my sister sense i was 12) were best friends at a very young age. Shortly after my mother and biological father divorced, my younger sister was diagnosed with a rare bone disease. Even before darrell married my mother, he was there every second of my sisters process to heal and get better. He gave blood, Helped carry her from one room to another, drove her and my mother to doctors visits, and would even cook. Not to long after my sisters surgeries and therapy darrell (who i call pop) and my mother got married. But it wouldnt be long before tragedy would hit our little family again. My step brother, kyle had a terrible accident and is now in a nursing facility. My pop took this incredibly hard. i dont know any father who wouldnt. But this man i call pop didnt just sink into depression. He built himself back up to take care of me and my sisters. working two jobs, one as a office manager, and one as farmer. supporting us, picking us up from cheerleading, softball, and dance team practice, and making sure we never went without. This man has been there for me when i didnt even realize it! making sure i could make it in the world on my own, and be the woman i am today. I am now 23 and live in wichita ks as a photographer for Lifetouch church directories and portraits. And i know deep down without my step dad, i would never have the courage to move all this way and go after my dreams. This man is not just a step father to me, he has more then earned the title of DAD! i hope everyone will see him as i do. A wonderful man who was a dad to us when he didnt have to be. and even if he doesnt win this contest no matter how much it is deserved, He has already won a place in my heart. some may call him a step father, a great man, a strong man, but i just call him DAD!

Darrell Ramage may be a wonderful dad and husband to the 4 beautiful women in his life, but he is also a great friend and recently became a proud grandpa! I love this family and everything they are about!! Kyle loves him more than he will ever know!
