Executive Chef and business owner, Chef Karla Lawrence of Artisan Kitchen and Shandies Restaurant and Bar
Chef Karla Lawrence is a 2005 Graduate of West Kentucky Community and Technical College Culinary Arts Program. She was a recipient of the Charles Armstrong Scholarship awarded by the Paducah Hospitality Association. She has continued her professional development through attendance and completion of the World Pastry Forum event curriculum in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Chef Lawrence is the recipient of the 2008 Bobby Holman Hospitality Award which recognizes an exceptional commitment to community service and hospitality. She has served as the Vice President and President of the Paducah Hospitality Association. In addition, she has been an active participant and Vice-President of the local chapter of the American Culinary Federation.
Chef Lawrence has taught a number of classes in the A La Carte Cooking Class series sponsored by the West Kentucky Community and Technical College as well as classes taught at Artisan Kitchen. Classes have ranged from baking basics to international cuisines.
Chef Karla Lawrence began with Artisan Kitchen in 2005. She started as a Pastry Chef and was promoted to Executive Chef in 2008. Prior to her formal education, Chef Lawrence had worked at a number of local bakeries and restaurants, as well as worked independently making specialty and wedding cakes.
In January of 2011, Chef Lawrence and business partner, David Jones, opened Shandies Restaurant and Bar in downtown Paducah. They are also currently expanding Artisan Kitchen, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in April, with the opening of the AK Café.
Her love and talent for the arts is evidenced in her work and creative endeavors both through recipe development and food artistry. She expresses a natural and insatiable desire to keep learning and developing her craft.
