Gov. Bevin appoints Todd Cooper to Ballard County judge executive

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has named Todd Cooper of Barlow to be judge executive for Ballard County. The appointment comes after Vickie Viniard retired from the position last month.

The county recommended Cooper to Bevin. He was appointed deputy judge executive by Viniard in Aug. 2016, and he previously served as Ballard County sheriff from 1995 to 2015.

County Attorney Vicki Hayden tells us Cooper will be sworn in Wednesday. He’ll serve the rest of the term vacated by Viniard.

Viniard is accused of bank and wire fraud and falsifying a statement on a loan application in a scheme involving nearly half a million dollars. A trial date is set for Aug. 7.
