Report of stolen pickup truck leads to arrest of TN man on bicycle

WEAKLEY COUNTY, TN (WPSD) — A Greenfield, Tennessee man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly stole a pickup truck, crashed, and then stole a bicycle.

The Weakley County Sheriff’s Office says around 5:00 p.m. they got a call from the McKenzie Police Department that a 1998 red Ford Ranger was stolen and could be headed to a home in Greenfield.

At 5:20 p.m., deputies received a call from Little General in Gleason. The caller said a man driving a red Ford Ranger had left without paying for $38 of gas and had also stolen beer from the store. The caller also believed the man driving was intoxicated.

Five minutes later, the red Ford Ranger crashed with another car at the intersection of Greenfield Highway 54 and Liberty Road. Deputies were told the man took a cell phone from the other person involved in the crash and rode away on a bike he found at the scene.

Deputies found the man, 24-year-old Melvin Lance Donnell of Greenfield, at the intersection of Lower Sharon Road and Greenfield Highway 52.

He was arrested and charged with:
– Driving under the influence
– Violation of the implied consent law
– Driving on a suspended/revoked license
– Leaving the scene of an accident
– Burglary
– Theft of property under $1,000
– Buy/sell/receive stolen property

The McKenzie Police Department will also have charges for Donnell.
