POPLAR BLUFF, MO — A Poplar Bluff man was arrested on a child abuse charge after he admitted to throwing a 6-year-old child.

On Tuesday, the Butler County Ambulance Service was called to the 800 block of Hart Street on report of a 6-year-old that had fallen.

E.M.S. personnel noticed the child’s injuries were not consistent with the explanation given on the scene. The child was taken to a local hospital and treated for brain bleed, collapsed lung, broken ribs, and bruising all over the body.

Poplar Bluff police were then called to the scene and made contact with the girl’s mother, 25-year-old Shakima Eure, and her live-in boyfriend, 27-year-old Damien Gaylor.

Gaylor admitted to throwing the girl causing her to land on the corner of the couch and pushing her down causing her to hit her head against a stove.

The child was unconscious but Gaylor did not get help until her mother returned home which was about two hours later.

The child was flown to a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Her status is unknown at the time.

Gaylor was arrested for abuse of a child and taken to the Butler County Justice Center.
