SCAM ALERT: Email mimicking Apple Support reported in west Kentucky

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — McCracken County deputies are warning people about an Apple App purchase scam.

The scam is an email from what appears to be “Apple Support” saying “thank you for your purchase.” There is also an attachment that looks like an invoice.

The invoice shows an in-app purchase of $49.99 and a link to click that says “CANCEL PAYMENT.”

The link leads to a page that looks like a legitimate Apple Support page. The page asks for the user’s Apple ID and password, then later asks for their social security number and other personal information.

Deputies say if you get a suspicious email, check the address from the receipt to verify if it legitimate or not.
