Canaan’s #3 jersey retired by Murray State

One night after going into the Murray State athletics Hall of Fame, former Racer Isaiah Canaan had his #3 jersey officially retired.

The jersey retirement was a surprise to Canaan, who was originally called onto the court of the CFSB Center with the rest of the 2018 class at halftime of the men’s basketball game.

Murray State athletics director Allen Ward called Canaan “the best of the best to ever play at Murray State.”

“From this day forward, no one will ever wear a number three jersey for Murray State basketball,” Ward said addressing Canaan and the crowd. “Your name and number will forever hang from the rafters of the CFSB Center.”

Canaan, who is 5th all-time on the Murray State all-time scoring list, was completely surprise by the moment.

“Nobody told me about it,” Canaan said. “I always dreamed about having my number in the rafters one day. I knew when I first came on campus that I wanted my name and number to hang up there. Tonight, my dream came true.”

Canaan is the 10th former Murray State basketball player to have his jersey retired.
