Marion, IL Police Department mourning death of K9

MARION, IL — The Marion, Illinois Police Department is mourning the death of K9 officer Shaya.

She died Monday afternoon due to a non-operable brain tumor. She would of turned six years old in April.

Shaya was a Belgian Malinois Shepard and had been working with the police department since 2014. She was trained in patrol, tracking, and drug detection.

Her partner was Officer Tyson Baker and she lived with his family.

The police department says she will be missed terribly.
