Carlisle County hemp processing plant not moving forward as promised

CARLISLE COUNTY, KY — The hemp processing plant in west Kentucky that ground was broken for in March is not moving forward as the company promised, Carlisle County Judge Executive Greg Terry says.

Kings Royal Biotech held a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant in March. But Terry says Kings Royal could not come up with the funding to build the CBD oil extraction plant that was planned for the site. CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is a non-intoxicating extract that would be taken from the hemp and used by many people for pain relief and to treat other health issues.

Terry says hemp that would go to the plant is already being grown at a site nearby, and the county is going in a different direction.

The judge executive says he is still optimistic about the future. He says a processing plant will eventually be built near the area, so the hemp can still be grown in Carlisle County.
