Couple facing more charges in elder abuse case

Lane and Rebecca Carter

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — A couple charged with abusing an elderly lady are now facing new charges.

In July, 25-year-old Rebecca Carter and 47-year-old Lance Carter were arrested for allegedly abusing a 91-year-old woman.

Rebecca was the woman’s caretaker and the couple lived with her for that reason.

During their investigation, McCracken County sheriff’s detectives found a pattern of financial abuse dating back to November of 2017.

Detectives say that on at least 12 occasions the Carters bought tools, generators, air compressors, and other items from multiple Home Depot stores using the victim’s Home Depot credit card.

The items were then sold by one of the Carters at a pawn shop for cash. In all, $3,600 was put on the victim’s credit card.

Detectives say the victim had authorized the Carters to use the credit card but only to buy items necessary for the household.

Both Rebecca and Lance were charged with 12 counts of knowingly abuse/neglect of an adult by person.

The case is under investigation and additional charges are likely.
