POPLAR BLUFF, MO — A Missouri man accused of abandoning a litter of puppies was arrested Wednesday, police say.

Animal control called in the Poplar Bluff Police Department to help investigate. During the investigation, animal control officers received information alleging a man named Daryl Scarlet abandoned the puppies.

Police say when they went to Scarlet’s house they found that he owns the puppies’ mother, and there was one more puppy from the litter in his home.

Scarlet was arrested and jailed in the Butler County Justice Center. Police say animal neglect charges will be filed.

The dog and puppy found in Scarlet’s home were seized, and police say Scarlet signed a release of ownership form releasing the rights to the dogs to the Poplar Bluff Animal Shelter.
