Local probation and parole officer honored for acting quickly on flight

PADUCAH, KY — A local probation and parole officer was honored for springing into action, even in the air.

Probation and Parole Officer Amelia Lozano of Paducah was honored Wednesday with a Hero Award during the 2018 Kentucky Corrections Awards Luncheon.

In May, Lozano and her husband were on a flight to Honduras when a passenger became unruly. That’s when Lozano sprang into action and placed the woman in handcuffs.

Speaking with Local 6 on Thursday, she said it was meant to be. She said she didn’t do it to get recognition, but only to keep everyone safe on the flight.

She was nominated for the award by her supervisor.
