Deputy injured, fugitive killed in overnight shooting at Kentucky rest area

SCOTT COUNTY, KY — A fugitive was killed and a deputy was injured in an overnight shooting at a Kentucky rest area.

Kentucky State Police say around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Scott County deputies had found 57-year-old Edwards Reynolds of Florida at the 127 mile marker rest area on Interstate 75 in Scott County.

Reynolds was a fugitive from another state wanted by US Marshals.

During a confrontation with Reynolds, shots were fired. Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Scott County deputy was injured. The deputy was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting.
