Multiple people injured in four-vehicle crash on I-24

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — Multiple people were injured in a four-vehicle collision on Interstate 24 east Thursday in McCracken County, the sheriff’s department says.

The crashed happened around 10:27 a.m. Thursday around the 9 mile marker of I-24 east. Deputies say 36-year-old Autumn Boyd of Calvert City was driving a 2011 GMC Yukon when she approached standstill traffic.

Boyd was unable to stop in time, deputies say, and her SUV hit the rear of a silver 2017 Buick Encore driven by 60-year-old Wanda Walls of Dawson Springs. Walls’ compact SUV was pushed into a White 2011 Chevrolet HHR driven by 69-year-old Gary Hall of West Paducah and a Silver 2010 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 62-year-old Allen Melvin of West Frankfort, Illinois. Deputies say Melvin had a passenger with him, 54-year-old Rex Slane of West Frankfort.

Investigators say everyone except Hall had to be treated for injuries at the scene and taken by Mercy Regional EMS to area hospitals. None of their injuries were incapacitating. In Addition to Mercy EMS, responders with Reidland-Farley Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.

Traffic was restricted to one lane for about an hour while the crash was investigated and the site was cleaned up.
