Fugitive arrested in west Kentucky after nearly 17 years at large
MURRAY, KY — A fugitive wanted in Michigan has been arrested in Murray, Kentucky, after police say he was on the run for nearly 17 years.
The Murray Police Department says 40-year-old Hiram Abiff Hawkins was arrested Monday by Murray officers and U.S. Marshal’s Office investigators.
In February 2002, police say, Hawkins fled from a courtroom in Michigan where he was on trial for two counts of criminal sexual conduct. He fled while the verdict was being read, and remained at large for nearly two decades.
Police say Hawkins has been living under the alias Robert Martin ever since, and he has spend several years in Murray under that name.
The U.S. Marshal’s Office contacted the Murray Police Department Monday after getting information that Hawkins could be living there. He was found and arrested without incident.
