Holiday shipping deadlines

PADUCAH — The United States Postal Service alone expects to deliver more than 900 million packages and nearly 15 billion pieces of mail this holiday season.

With holidays around the corner, you should plan on shipping your gifts within the next couple of weeks.

Jeff Cummings owns Go! Calendars Games and Toys at Kentucky Oaks Mall. He’s not always able to be with his family but wants to make sure that every holiday is memorable.

“I’ve got all my shopping done, I’m fortunate. Being in this store always helps.” Cummings said.

He’s been shipping his gifts to his family in Alabama for the past 10 years.

“Even when I’m there, I try to make it special and exciting for my family,” Cummings said. “Since I’m not there, even more so. Shipping comes in handy for that reason because you’re able to put special things in there and put some thought into it.”

Cummings says shipping has been a little bit busier with online shopping, but he knows when he should be shipping gifts.

“I find that you should always ship in advance because the lines get long as the Christmas holidays approach,” Cummings said. “And of course any delays with weather always affects that too.”

For Stephen Young, selling on eBay started as a hobby. Now, he says he’s really into it and the shipping companies make it easy for him.

“I usually try to price anything I sell at a reasonable price and I take care of the shipping,” Young said. “I go to UPS, Fed-Ex, US Postal Service, all of them.”

He says he has more customers during the holiday season.

“This time of year, there is a possibility of it taking a little longer, but I’ve had a good experience. Normally it’s not a big delay unless you wait until the very last minute.” Cummings said.
