HARRISBURG, IL — A southern Illinois man has been arrested after a local police department received 25 reports of slashed tires in one area — all within 24 hours.

On Tuesday, the Harrisburg, Illinois, Police Department said 21-year-old Ryan Merritt was arrested on multiple charges in the case and two juvenile males were investigated. One of the underage suspects was detained and the other was released to his mother.

Police arrived at the 600 block of West Parish Street in Harrisburg around 9:38 p.m. Monday, responding to a report of slashed tires. The department says it received 25 slashing reports within one day, and witnesses gave descriptions of three suspects.

Investigators say Merritt and the two juveniles were found in the area where the tires were slashed, and they match the descriptions officers received.

The Harrisburg police department was assisted by the Saline County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police. Investigators say people who have additional information about the case or have vehicle damage to report can call Saline County Central Dispatch at 618-252-8661.
