Former Verso mill now officially Phoenix Paper

WICKLIFFE, KY — The paper mill in Wickliffe is now taking job applications.

In August, a Chinese company announced it is purchasing the mill with the intent to reopen it. Now, the company is one step closer to doing that. It was announced on Tuesday that the mill’s new name will be Phoenix Paper. Signs with the new name have been put up around the mill.

Phoenix Paper says it hopes to hire around 250 people in the first hiring phase. The goal is to have everything up and running sometime in the first part of 2019.

People in Wickliffe say they’re glad to see things happening at the mill. The company is now accepting applications in the maintenance and production departments.

“Now that actually people are involved in the production of getting business started, I think that gives everyone hope,” says local Donnie Lawrence.

People who want to apply for a position with the mill need to do so through the Kentucky Career Center in Paducah.
