Florida man accused of stealing $312,000 in electronics

PADUCAH, Ky. — A Florida man is in Jail in Paducah in the connection with the theft of thousands of dollars in electronics from a store in Marion, IL.

Paducah police were notified early Friday morning that the Verizon store in Marion, IL has been burglarized. Marion authorities tracked suspects to a business on Cairo Road at I-24.

Paducah officers were able to locate the suspect U-Haul truck as it pulled onto I-24. Officers attempted to stop the truck and it ran off the road and into a fence.

The driver attempted to flee on foot and officers chased the driver for nearly a mile. Officers caught the suspect in an industrial park area west of Olivet Church Road.

Johan Valdes, 28, of Miami FL., was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more), first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle) and second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot).

The U-Haul had been stolen from Vienna, IL. The merchandise included 267 Apple iPhones, 26 iPads and multiple other items valued at about $312,000.
