Flu now widespread in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, KY — The Kentucky Department for Public Health says there is now “widespread” flu activity in the state.

Widespread is the highest level of flu activity, which indicates increased flu cases or flu outbreaks in at least half of the state’s regions.

There are currently 1,457 laboratory-confirmed cases of the flu in the state. That is about the same number of cases compared to this time last year.

Four adults and one child have died so far from the flu in Kentucky this flu season.

The Department of Public Health is encouraging anyone who hasn’t gotten a flu shot to get one.

If you do get the flu, you are encouraged to stay home, cover your cough, and wash your hands with soap and water to help stop the spread of germs.
