Harrisburg man dies after crash between tractor and semi truck
SALINE COUNTY, IL — A Harrisburg man died after his tractor was hit by a semi.
Around 1:37 p.m. Sunday, Illinois State Police were called to a crash on US 45 at Muddy Road.
Troopers say 60-year-old Raymond Bowles of Harrisburg was driving a tractor at a slow rate of speed in the right lane of US 45 at Muddy Road.
56-year-old Kevin Voelker of Omaha, Illinois was driving a semi truck on the same section of road at a higher rate of speed.
Voelker said he was distracted when he dropped an e-cigarette in his cab. The semi then hit the rear of the tractor, causing the tractor to overturn.
Bowles was injured and taken to a local hospital where he later died. Voelker was not injured.
Voelker was cited with failing to reduce speed to avoid crash.
