Tugboat sinks in Calvert City

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY — A tugboat sank Monday night on the Tennessee River in Calvert City.

Marshall County Rescue Squad Chief Kurt Schmidt says two men were on board when the boat sank near Arkema and Bailey Port.

Schmidt says the were both picked up by another tugboat. He says they had minor injuries, but they are OK.

Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Curt Curtner says the two were taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution, because they were in the water at least 20 minutes before they were rescued.

Coast guard, Calvert City Fire Department and rescue squad crews responded to the scene, as well as county EMS and emergency management.
