McCracken County High School Athletic director under investigation for misconduct

UPDATE: We’re learning more about the resignation of the McCracken County High School athletic director.

Local 6 has obtained a copy of the letter McCracken County High School Principal Michael Ceglinski sent to teachers announcing Athletic Director Kris Garrett’s resignation.

Included in the email is the message Garrett sent Ceglinski tendering his resignation. Garrett said he decided to step down because of “personal health concerns” and his desire to “spend more time with family.”

Garrett’s resignation coincides with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department’s announcement that it is looking into a misconduct allegation against the athletic director. Here’s the email teachers received:

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations of misconduct involving a McCracken County High School Athletic Director Kris Garrett.

The sheriff’s office was contacted by school officials about allegations of inappropriate communications between the director and a student via an electronic device.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office says they have no evidence at this time to confirm or deny the allegations, but are continuing to investigate.

Jayme Jones, the Director of Public Relations for McCracken County Public Schools, says they learned about the possible inappropriate conduct on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

She says the school district immediately contacted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office. Since Jan. 15, the employee has not been permitted on school property, and to the best of the district’s knowledge, has had no contact with the student.
