Deadly crash on Benton Road was head-on collision, sheriff’s office says

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — Investigators say the crash on Benton Road in McCracken County that claimed a man’s life Monday morning was a head-on collision.

The crash happened around 7:36 a.m. Monday at the Clarks River bridge in the 4500 block of Benton Road.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says 23-year-old Tanner Howard of Paducah was driving when he drifted into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, 63-year-0ld Sandra Cash of Paducah, was taken by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital. She was later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Investigators say they don’t know what caused him to drift into the oncoming lane.

The roadway was closed for about three hours while deputies investigated at the scene. The road is back open, but the sheriff’s department says an accident reconstructionist is continuing to investigate the crash.

The Reidland-Farley Fire Department, McCracken County Emergency Management, Mercy Regional EMS, and the McCracken County Coroner’s Office assisted deputies at the scene.
