Metropolis man hit while standing at mailbox

MASSAC COUNTY, IL — A Metropolis man was hit by a car early Monday morning.

Illinois State Police say the crash happened just before 7:00 a.m. on Mount Mission Road about a half mile east of Country Club Road.

Troopers say a 28-year-old Dongola man was driving east on Mount Mission when he hit a 39-year-old Metropolis man who was standing at his mailbox.

The Metropolis man was taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the car was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
