One killed, another injured in overnight house fire in Mayfield

MAYFIELD, KY — One person was killed and another was critically injured in an overnight fire in Mayfield.

Around 9:16 p.m. Sunday, the Mayfield Fire Department was called to 510 Brand Street on report of a fire with people possibly inside. The home is located near Mayfield Elementary School.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke and flames. They then went into the home where they found and removed one victim.

That victim was taken to a local hospital and then flown to a regional burn center. A second victim was found moments later, but was already dead.

A Mayfield Fire Department firefighter was also injured during the fire after a portion of the floor collapsed. They were later released and returned to work.

The fire was extinguished about 15 minutes after firefighters arrived. No working smoke detectors were found in the home.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
