Court documents claim teenage boy abused repeatedly by McCracken County coach

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — We are learning more details about an investigation into McCracken County High School’s former fishing coach John Parks.

Parks is charged with sexual abuse and possession of child pornography. He pleaded not guilty Thursday during his arraignment.

We also obtained copies of the arrest citation which claims Parks had repeatedly contacted a 16-year-old student in inappropriate ways.

In the citation, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says they interviewed the student on February 14. The student told deputies for the past year, Parks had touched him on the butt and upper thigh area between 50 and 100 times.

He said that Parks would grab his butt in a sexual manner and was not a “butt slap” as is sometimes common in sports.

The student said Parks would place his hand on the teen’s upper thigh under the table at restaurants and during car rides. He also tried to convince the teen to spend the night at a cabin after a bass fishing team camp. He said he was worried that he would not be able to fight off Parks if he were to try to rape him.

The student also gave deputies his phone saying Parks sent messages that were more affectionate in nature than a coach/student relationship. Deputies say they found messages where Parks told the teen he needed a spanking and called the teen pumpkin and other affectionate names.

The victim eventually quit attending school and bass fishing team functions. The Sheriff’s department stated Wednesday that the school had at least known for three weeks prior and did not report it.

Parks was arrested last week on the allegations. He pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday.

He is next set to appear in court on February 28.
