NWS says EF2 preliminary rating for tornado in McCracken County

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY — The National Weather Service in Paducah says the tornado in Ballard and  McCracken counties in Kentucky, Thursday morning has a preliminary rating of EF 2.

The estimated peak wind speed was 125 mph. The tornado’s path was 16.7 miles long and, at its widest point, was 300 yards wide on Blandville Road, west of Lovelaceville.

The NWS says the tornado’s track starts 1 mile northwest of Cunningham, which is in Carlisle County, just west of the KY 1628 and 1820 intersection. It started there at 9:18 a.m. and ended at 9:34 a.m., 4 miles west of downtown Paducah — just east of Coleman Road.

In a summary of its damage survey Thursday night, the the NWS says dozens of barns, outbuildings and grain bins were destroyed. As we’ve reported to you all day, homes, businesses and a church were damaged.
