United Way raises over $2.6K through Pizza Inn Dough Raiser

PADUCAH — Many of you showed up to support the Paducah-McCracken County United Way and enjoy some pizza at the sixth annual Dough Raiser last week. Today, the nonprofit publicly announced just how much dough you raised.

This year’s Dough Raiser at Pizza Inn in Paducah was held March 5. United Way volunteers served patrons, and all tips and 10 percent of every ticket went to the organization.

United Way Community Impact Manager Anne Bidwell says this year’s event raised $2,689 for the community.

One of the Local United Way’s programs is Promoting Academics and Leadership in Schools, or P.A.L.S. Through the program, volunteers meet one-on-one with students for reading and math sessions. Bidwell said the Dough Raiser gave one of those students the opportunity to see his reading pal outside school.

Bidwell says a student named Ayden was at the event with his grandfather. When they went in the restaurant, the grandfather saw Ayden run straight over to a volunteer and give him a hug.

She says the volunteer, James Miller from Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership, is Ayden’s reading pal. “The grandfather was so happy to have met James,” Bidwell says. “Ayden and James were both thrilled to see each other outside of school.”

Want to go to next year’s Dough Raiser? Bidwell says next year’s event is scheduled for March 3.

Reading pals Ayden and James got to see each other outside of school at the United Way Dough Raiser on March 5. Ayden’s grandfather also got to meet his grandson’s reading pal.
