Sky 6: Farm house now island amid floodwaters in Miller City, IL

MILLER CITY, IL — A family in Alexander County, Illinois, is fighting floodwaters at their home because it’s near the Len Small Levee, which has been broken for several years.

The Pecord family’s farm is in Miller City. The town has struggled with flooding since the levee breached in 2016, and the Army Corps of Engineers declined to pay to fix it.

The family says they’re still holding out hope that the levee will be fixed. The river would have to drop another 10 feet at Cape Girardeau before water stops flowing into the fields of their farm.
