Man sentenced to 2 years for threatening police officer in southern Illinois

MOUNDS, IL — A man was sentenced Monday to two years in state prison for threatening a police officer, the Pulaski County, Illinois, State’s Attorney’s Office says.

The Mounds, Illinois, man — 28-year-old Calvin Giden Jr. — was convicted of threatening a public official. Prosecutors say he threatened to take revenge against a Mounds Police Officer on Oct. 25, 2017. Giden made the threat after the officer arrested him regarding an altercation at a convenience store.

Giden was originally placed on probation with a six-month sentence at the Pulaski County Detention Center, but the state’s attorney’s office said in Monday’s announcement that Giden violated multiple conditions of his probation — leading to the new sentence.
